Boiled or roasted, there's no wrong way to eat these delicious red roots. And don't forget to save the greens to sauté--they've got a flavor very similar to Chard!
Beet greens are sweet, mild, and cook up into the silkiest, most tender greens you'll ever eat. And the stems? They're far more delicious than those of kale and collards.
They're also more nutritious. Beet greens are some of the most nutrient-rich greens around, containing more antioxidants and other phytonutrients than the bulbous roots themselves.
There are several reasons why beats don't always come with stems. The farmers eat them, feed them to their chickens or pigs, or just harvested more mature beets which are great for all sorts of different reason.
We sell beets without stems but we do get requests for stem on and when possible we try to accommodate but because of seasonality and other factors it sometimes just can't happen. If you're looking for beet greens, order this variety from us and we will do our best.
The best and freshest beets and stems. Love them.
Beets a little bland
We often buy beets at the farmers market because they have better flavor than the supermarket beets. Although these looked good and were organic, the flavor was bland and so were the greens, so it was like the supermarket ones. Sorry for the poor review.
